PROJECT
The Markets is an exceptional project by Cox Architecture that will bring 315 dwellings to a key location in Belconnen Town Centre, opposite the Belconnen Markets redevelopment. It represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to reside next door to an artisan food hub or invest in what is set to be a national food and entertainment attraction.
Designed to meet all lifestyle requirements, the dwellings vary from loft apartments, an abundance of 1, 2 & 3 bedroom apartments, and 3, 4 & 5 bedroom penthouses.
Inspired by the iconic Grounds of Alexandria, The Piazza will be an attraction in its own right. The magnificent pedestrian thoroughfare will flood greenery through the development, guiding residents through the space into an indoor-outdoor haven.

Bringing together the best local producers, farmers and providores, the new Belconnen Markets, renamed Capital Food Market, will offer a vibrant day to night venue. Inspired by Barcelona’s La Boqueria, London’s Borough Markets and Torvehallerne in Copenhagen, the creators have gone to an immense effort to find the right mix of producers and hospitality operators to create an artisan food hub and entertainment precinct in Canberra.
Around 50 vendors will reside with a large fresh food area on one side, complemented by food service on the other. Pop-ups and food islands will activate the space with plans for food demonstrations and a rotation of small seasonal traders. Larger restaurants will surround the area offering relaxed specialty dining.
National retailers including Chemist Warehouse, Petbarn, Toyworld and the Elements 4 Life gymnasium chain have already signed leases as well as existing market traders being relocated to the new building.
The markets will operate 7-days with extended trading into the evening. Expected to open mid-2023

Energy for residential amenity and common areas within the development will be renewably sourced from solar panels, not only minimising the carbon footprint of the building, but also reducing body corporate fees in the future.
In response to the rising popularity of Electric Vehicles, each resident car park at The Markets will include an EV charger as standard - no more waiting to use a communal bay.
Heating and cooling costs will be further reduced through the installation of double glazing for all windows. Extensive landscaping and deep root planting is planned to reduce the ‘urban heat island effect’, and will be maintained using water retention systems.

While living next door to the reinvented Capital Food Markets will be a notable brag, the Belconnen town centre boasts a range of convenient luxuries. Live walking distance to Westfield Belconnen including Hoyts and its plethora of surrounding food, beverage and retail offerings, Lake Ginninderra, Bunnings and public transport.
The Markets is an ideal location in Canberra less than 10 minutes away from essential infrastructure including University of Canberra, Calvary Public and Private Hospital, GIO Stadium and the AIS. With direct highway access from Benjamin Way residents have immediate access to central Canberra with Australian National University just 11 minutes away and the Canberra CBD 15 minutes’ drive.
